Level 2 National Certificate for Door Supervisors

The Level 2 NCDS is a recognised qualification required for the licensing of all individuals working in the private security industry in a door supervisory capacity.

The qualification consists of four units:

Unit 1 - Guided learning 10 hours - Working in the Private Security Industry

The course covers:

  • The purpose and features of the private security industry
  • The relevant legislation
  • Health and safety in the workplace
  • Applying the principles of fire safety
  • Dealing with emergencies
  • Communication and customer care

Assessment is 40 minute examination consisting of 25 question multi-choice paper (pass mark 18).

Unit 2 – guided learning 10 hours- Working as a Door Supervisor

The course covers:

  • behavioural standards
  • civil and criminal law
  • search procedures
  • powers of arrest
  • drug legislation
  • incident recording and scene preservation.
  • licensing law and social responsibility
  • procedures for emergency situations

Assessment is 60 minute examination consisting of 40 question multi-choice paper (pass mark 28).

Unit 3 guided learning hours 8 - Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry

The course covers:

  • the principles of conflict management
  • recognise, assess and reduce the risk of conflict
  • communication and de-escalation
  • problem solving strategies for conflict
  • learning and developing good practice from conflict.

Assessment is a 40 minute examination consisting of 25 question multi-choice paper (pass mark 18).

Unit 4 - guided learning hours 10 – Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry

The physical intervention courses are tailored to the environment and the common scenarios

The course covers:

  • physical interventions and the legal and professional implications of their use
  • reducing the risk of harm when physical intervention skills are used
  • non pain related skills to protect from assault
  • non-pain related holding and escorting
  • good practice to follow physical interventions

Assessment of competence is 10 question true/false paper marked by tutor and on-going practical assessment by tutor.
