Guided Learning Hours - 6 hours

It is strongly advised that candidates already hold the Level 3 Award in Supervising Health & Safety and also have a minimum of level 2 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.

A five day (plus examination day) course is essential for all those who monitor and audit health and safety management systems, including business owners, managers, production managers and supervisors. It is also suitable for those wishing to deliver CIEH health and safety qualifications as part of their training provision. Successful candidates will be able to manage health and safety in most businesses, by developing auditing and monitoring programmes, designing safe practices and procedures, liaising with enforcement officers, interpreting legal requirements, staff training, and establishing risk assessment projects (with additional training where necessary).

The course is usually run in two day blocks over a period of four weeks, allowing time for private study and consolidation.

The course covers:

  • The principles of health and safety and accident prevention
  • Health & Safety Law & Enforcement
  • Health and safety organisation and management
  • The prevention of accidents and ill health.
  • Risk assessment : Hazard Risk and Control
  • Health & Safety systems, records and documentation
  • Supervising health and safety
  • The practical approach

Assessment is through two written assignments achieving the standard of 30 marks before examination entry. Examination is a two part 2½ hour paper. Candidates who achieve an overall mark between 60–74% will achieve a pass grade, those achieving 75–89% will be awarded a merit grade and those achieving 90% or more will be awarded a distinction grade. Candidates who do not achieve at least 60% will be deemed to have failed.
