COSHH stands for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health, meaning substances that can cause physical harm
Every year thousands are made ill by hazardous substances, which may cause serious health problems such as leukaemia, lung cancer, asthma or dermatitis, or may have dangerous properties, be flammable or explosive
Ill health and harm caused by these substances is preventable. Many substances can harm health, but if used properly, never do.
The process of risk assessment will identify potential COSHH hazards and their method of control, but these controls are only effective if understood and used by employees.
COSHH training ensures that all team members are conversant with the health risks associated with hazardous substances, nature of harm, product labelling and use, and most importantly their responsibilities in ensuring that health hazards in the work place are minimised and controlled.
