The programme covers a defined syllabus requiring a minimum of 36 hours study.
To complete the qualification, candidates opting for the Royal Institute syllabus are required to sit a 2½ hour examination paper.
CIEH students must successfully complete two assessed course assignments before sitting a 2½ hour examination representing 50% of the final grade.
Successful candidates are able to manage food safety in most food businesses, by developing auditing and monitoring programmes, designing hygienic practices and procedures, liaising with enforcement officers, staff training, interpreting legal requirements and establishing hazard analysis projects (with additional training where necessary).
The Level 4 (Advanced) Food Hygiene certificate is designed for those who have responsibility for the management of food hygiene issues. It is also an appropriate technical qualification for those wishing to deliver level 2 food hygiene training.
