First Aid for Child Care Providers

This course has been developed to meet the requirements of the National Standards, and is designed for those persons responsible for the care of young children, whether in a playschool or nursery setting, or in the home environment of the childminder.
The minimum 12 hour (normally delivered over two days) OFSTED approved syllabus has been developed to address the First Aid topics related to child care.
Whilst covering the fundamentals of First Aid

  • The role of the First Aider
  • Accident reporting
  • First Aid box
  • Primary survey
  • Recovery position etc
  • CPR and rescue breaths (paediatric)
  • Fractures
  • Wounds and bleeding

The syllabus also addresses the appropriate action to take in the event of

  • Choking, Asthma, Seizures
  • Allergic reactions
  • Head injury
  • Poisonings, bites and stings
  • Common childhood illnesses

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course. Competent candidates will be issued with a certificate of attendance.
