First Aid at Work Re-qualification

It is recommended that qualified first aiders attend this course two to three months before their FAW certificate expires. The course is designed to update and refresh, checking current knowledge and experience and also giving further theory and familiarisation with any new protocols that have been introduced.

Awarding Body Health and Safety Executive

The course is fully accredited by the HSE and therefore conforms and meets all standards of the Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981.

Guided Learning Hours 12 (usually delivered over 2 days)

The course covers:

  • Airway management
  • Burns and scalds management
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Eye injuries
  • Fractures - injuries to muscles and joints
  • Management of unconscious patient/fits and convulsions
  • Medical emergencies including child and infant
  • Poisons
  • Shock and fainting
  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Preparation for course assessment

Candidates have an opportunity to revisit any particular areas of interest or concern

The course will include practical demonstration and individual participation.

The final assessment takes place at the end of the course. Assessors will evaluate the competence of the candidate by observation of practical skills and verbal assessment of knowledge, understanding and actions. The candidate will be required to demonstrate competency in resuscitation, assisting an unconscious casualty, and assisting a conscious casualty with an injury.

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be awarded the HSE approved First Aid at Work Certificate, valid for three years
